So yall don't even acknowledge north Kenner where a good amount of professional athletes and other successful people choose to live?
Oh what a shock lunchbox seizes upon some unimportant detail to start an argument .

Why in the frick is "new money" an insult anyway? Isn't that just a synonym for "earned it?"

I didn't say it was an insult

It's unimportant? You're trying too hard.
You tried to write off an entire area, neglecting that are are in fact some incredibly nice areas there. All I did was ask if you weren't acknowledging them.

How much more expensive is it to live in Orleans Parish?
Depends on where you want to live.
In Lakeview for example the avg home price is around 500k give or take a few grand. and that's right next to Jefferson Parish.
I'm not familiar with the area adjacent to lakeview in Jefferson parish, but I would guess the home prices wouldn't be to far off from Lakeview.

Pricey
If they(the city) could fix the streets then I would imagine the cost of those homes rising. A lot of the streets in lakeview suck.. in a major way

I was looking in Jefferson. And what I found for that price I thought was pretty bad compared to almost all other places. That was my only point
It is.
You didn't do anything wrong. As someone who has lived here my whole life, watches real estate, you are spot on with everything you've said. It's fricking absurd how not affordable it is.
A lot of these young people with "new wealth" are in fact able to buy $400-800K houses only with significant contributions from family (whether it's parents giving down payments, paying school tuition etc). The people my age I know that do not come from family that can give that type of support are in the same boat as you.
As for Lakeview, prices have simply skyrocketed. But, the neighborhood has seen an incredible influx of complete douchebags. Like someone else said, it's suddenly so desirable that people in Metairie go to St. Dominics for mass, just to be seen there. that's stupid.
However, it'll hit some sort of bubble soon. The houses really selling are the new homes with reasonable prices, and some that are retarded expensive, but also retarded nice. There is a shite load of new construction that is just not selling because it's over priced. Same with post-K remodels - just because new houses sell for 500k doesn't mean that your sea-level home that you remodeled is now worth $450k. I'm also seeing a lot of post-K remodels that sold a couple years ago, but are now for sale again for a lot more (just people trying to make a quick 100-200K).
Uptown is not attainable for normal money people, unless you want to risk being shot in the face (and even friends uptown in nice areas say the same thing and are constantly worried about being robbed/burgled). shite, a worker at Sacred Heart got car-jacked outside of the school during daylight hours a couple weeks ago. Outside of $1.5m houses that kind of shite goes on.
And new Metairie, especially below Causeway is a nice area. Some houses are priced reasonably, while a lot are over-priced grandmothers' homes that they are trying to get an extra $50/sq.ft for because they are close to Lakeview and then sit on the market for months. Reasonably/appropriately priced homes in Metairie and Lakeview sell quickly though.

Now granted, most come from money to begin with but now they are mostly super successful doctors and lawyers that can hold their own.
I feel like people in this thread do not understand what constitutes new money vs old money.

A lot more for taxes and insurance in Orleans vs Jefferson.

I'm in "trashy" Metairie. Won't make OM until the wife is through with fellowship. Probably still won't move for a while then. I have really great neighbors, quick access to the interstate, and a short drive to work.
