When did Italian Americans become accepted as white

Back in the 1910's - 1950's Italians were basically treated like Mexicans are treated now. Most people called them "WOPs" (with out papers). I'm asking to see how long will it be before Mexicans are considered white. I'm thinking about maybe in the next 30-40 years

Mexicans are white. Most of them have European ancestry. Lot's of blonde haired blue eyed people in Mexico.

The term WASP basically reflects this bias, as Germans and English (the most "desirable" nations to hail from) were protestants and the Irish and Italians (and obviously Hispanics) were Cat'licks.
