Has anyone said otherwise?

You said a majority have been good, so by definition some has been bad? How much are you will to gamble on getting a good one?

Are you serious right now? The majority are good. Some are bad. Why is this a mighty struggle for you?

Now how many are unncessarily shooting innocents or planting evidence or stealing money or whatever? An extremely small percentage.

I don't think it's very objective to quote as evidence the number of times LEO investigated themselves and found themselves guilty. Admitting guilt doesn't play well in court and is generally frowned upon by municipalities.

Of course they never screw up, they're the ones who determine if they did or not.

It's pretty easy to hide evidence of wrongdoing when you write the reports, your own police department investigates the crime and the system that pays you doles out the punishment.

No, beacuse they should have no reason to. I don't care how many youtube clips I see or articles I read, I personally have no reason to fear LEO or feel in any danger, beucase in my entire life I've never done anything to warrant that type of response.

Ok, that's great. How about this; in my 32 years on this planet, some of those early years spent poor as shite and the rest spent more than wealthy, I have known one person who was shot by a cop and I have known one cop who has shot someone. I don't know a single person who's been involved in a shooting who was not the cop doing the shooting, or the person being shot by the cop.

Only when it suits me but for the most part I don't really care too much. I have money, I can afford a good lawyer, I am more or less above the law.

I have seen a few not plenty where this might be true. In most videos we don't see the whole story.

But you agree it has happened, no? Not often, but it has happened. Very similar to an LEO being "guarded" while approaching a suspect either on foot or in a vehicle. Most of the time it's fine, but that 1% of the time, LEO gets assaulted/shot/etc, unprovoked.

Why is one justified in expecting violence and the other isn't?

I don't trust barf's research based on his posts in this thread, but let's assume his number of LEO with arrest power is accurate.

Let's say that we have 30,000 cops in america who do crappy stuff. Abuse power, shoot when unnecessary, write BS tickets, plant evidence, and any other number of bad things. 30,000...that's a shite ton of bad apples doing the absolute wrong thing that they should be doing.

Yet...that still only makes up 4% of the total number. 4. So we're going to sit here and blame an ENTIRE profession based on the actions of 4% of its makeup?

Think of the thousands upon thousands of videos we don't see where the cop is probably cool as shite....but that isn't news worthy. I have seen 100x (probably higher) videos of criminals giving cops much more to be concerned about than innocent people would have to worry about interactions with police.

First, I haven't seen any videos with a citizen walking down the sidewalk listening to music and then being beaten. I fully realize some people don't deserve what happens in some of these instances, but a lot of times these people are antagonziing in some way.

So the innocent ones don't have a legit reason to fear the police, regardless of how many incidents have come to light where innocent citizens are killed?

Let's play that scenario out on the other side. How well do you think it would go over if we mandated all traffic police don't carry weapons? I mean 99/100 times they end up fine right? They have no reason to fear.

It's a fallacy to assume that only guilty people get arrested, that LEO wear white hats, that only the bad guys get taken away, killed, beaten, etc. Your actions sometimes don't predict the outcome.

Did I say that only guilty people do?

I'm saying that over 99% of the time, innocent people that have done nothing wrong have no reason to fear any law enforcement.

Lots of boot lickers on this board who equate police work with fighting for our country in the military. They'd be the first to jump when the officer told them to "pick up that can".

That 4% has the ability to get someone the death penalty

I know a lot of cops. Most of them are pretty cool outside of work. Most of them are cool while they're working. I have also met and dealt with plenty of bad, a-hole-ish cops that were on a power trip or hyper-agressive. Maybe it's not the best idea to walk up and try to establish dominance over people before even speaking to them. I'd say the ratio is 3:1 good to bad.

I'll give you one.
I was driving my car down a two lane highway. I'm talking on the phone through the bluetooth in the car. I see a cop on a cross street above and he pulls out behind me after i pass. I noticed i wasn't speeding or anything, and wasn't worried and didn't pay anymore attention to the officer behind me.

I get to a red light about 10 seconds later. I stopped at the light, cop stops behind me, then i just went through the red light. I treated like a stop sign, b/c i wasn't paying attention b/c i was on the phone.

Cop comes after me and puts his lights on and my initial reaction was, "what the frick is he doing". So i pulled over at the next side street. He takes a while and finally asks me to get out the car with my license and registration. He stays in the car and checks my stuff. Takes a good while. I finally asks him why he pulled me over. His face was classic. I'm still amazed he kept his composure after i said that. He very angrily tells me i ran a red light. I was like "man i'm sorry, i literally had no idea i did that. I saw you behind me. I'll be honest, i was on my phone through the cars bluetooth and just wasn't paying attention. That is pretty scary to think that i just did that."
We talked a little bit more and kind of laughed at how stupid i was. He basically told me he went from thinking i was a criminal running from the police, to being confused at how polite i was about it after he pulled me over and not "running", and then thinking i was a dumbass once i told him what i did. It was so stupid he had to believe it.

He didn't even give me a ticket, even though he had every reason to treat me like a hostile person considering what i did.

I think we have all had that WTF did I just do moment. I had a cop pull me over on the way to Florida last year. He saw me speeding as he was crossing the median but I don't think he had me on radar. I slowed down and he caught up to me and pulled me over after about 10 seconds for my license plate being faded. He didn't give me a ticket he was just checking me out and was cool as could be other than stopping me.

And I'm not excusing them. I'm saying that many people (this thread for instance) form an opinion of an ENTIRE group of people almost a million strong based on the actions of 4%. Doesn't seem logical.

Right, so all the ones you know are pretty good dudes but you've also met some jerks. Welcome to every profession.

lol. Got news for you...if if 1 out of every 4 cops were crooked or assholes, we'd have a lot more problems on our hands than we do.

In the city that I live in, we almost have a fairy tale level PD. They are invovled in the community, come out to special events, hold citizen's acadmedy trainings, bring drug overdosers back to life on scene, rescue pets, help old people mow their yard, etc. Maybe I'm out of touch with reality based on our city having outstanding police. Maybe if you live in shittier areas you get shittier cops.
