Do you eat french fries? Donuts? Do you sit for more than a couple hours a day? Do you think we should ban soda?

All these are stupid analogies. People don't realize that lung cancer is not the big killer from tobacco, it's peripheral arterial disease. If people could spend one day in clinic with me and see the effects smoking has on blood flow. I've done 3 amputations this week.

What's amazing is that you cut off someone's toe, foot, or leg and they show up for the post of visit still reeking of cigarettes. People are so fricking stupid.

The health care costs associated with PAD and amputations is mind boggling.

I don't think we should ban smoking. However, we most definitely should prevent one cent of tax payer money being spent on health care costs associated with it.

You want to smoke? Fine. Be prepared to pay for the consequences.

Adam Carolla regularly says on his show that our society punishes smokers more than it punishes deadbeat dads. He is correct, unfortunately.

All of these are activities associated with higher mortality. Cigarettes are no different. If people want cigarettes to be demonized because of how bad they are for your health, then philosophically they should be on board every bit as much with demonizing French fries and bacon.

Moderation and exercise can counteract the effects of eating unhealthy foods. Nothing counteracts the effects of smoking.

Like I said earlier, I am not for banning anything because I believe in people having the personal liberty to choose how they live their lives. However, it's hilarious how people who use tobacco try to justify it as somehow not wrecking havoc on their bodies.

Also, as stated above, where I draw the line is other people having to foot the bill for your medical care because you knowingly made dumb arse decisions about your health.

Alcohol 100% has health benefits in moderation.

That isn't really debatable at this point.

Not the cancer causing parts of processed meats or charred food. Not any more than moderation does for cigarettes anyway (which does in fact lessen your risks of cancer and other disease associated with smoking).

ETA:
quote:

Unsurprisingly, quitters were the best-off in the long term, with a 22 percent reduction in overall mortality risk. Those who reduced their smoking by one category or more were seen to have a 15 percent decrease in overall mortality risk and a 23 percent reduced risk of death related to cardiovascular problems. In addition, the researchers measured the participants’ survival to the age of 80. Quitters saw a 33 percent increased chance of survival to 80 years of age, and people reducing the amount of cigarettes saw a 22 percent increased chance.

It is funny how cigarettes went from "cool" to "trashy" in less than fifteen years.

But I see them targeting Weed and I'm like "Pump the brakes, man"

Yeah but that's an expensive habit, which in turn makes it not trashy..... You can get a whole pack of cigs for like $6, trash
