What's the name of those black slithery bugs that find their way into your house

after a heavy rain? We find them occasionally in the bathroom, but after a heavy rain they seem to be found in various other areas of the house. I need to kill them dead and for good so I don't have the women freaking out every day. My attempts to convince them that they're not harmful hasn't exactly worked.

they are similar to silverfish and earwigs but appear to be slightly different.
