My wife's cousin is going to house sit for us for the next few weeks. I'm not sure what to pay the guy. Don't want to low ball him but also don't want to pay him more than he's worth. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hit submit too early. I edited the OP. It's a he, my wife's cousin.

We'll be gone a few weeks and need someone to take care of our pets.

House sitters I've known usually do it for free...

but those where for weeks and months at a time. They basically lived there.

So he's going to be eating your food, sleeping in your bed, drinking your liqour, shitting in your toilet, jacking off in your shower, sucking up your AC, and all he has to do is watch your dog and cat, on top of all that he's family?

Sounds like he should be paying you.

I wouldn't pay anymore than 1/2 or 1/3 of what it would take to board them. He gets to chill, eat your food, to let rover out and feed him.

Is sitting your house going to improve that person's lifestyle?

Do you have a pool or such?

Are you leaving them good food/drink?

Do you have nasty pets?

So the dude gets to basically live at your house just because your pets need to be fed? Please. Give him a key, ask him to feed the animals and walk the dog once or twice a day and call it a life.

I just feel like I should pay him a little something. As far as eating my food, we're leaving Friday and have known about it for a while so the cupboard ain't going to be as stocked as it normally would be.

My sister-in-law was going to keep the pets until a couple of days ago when some unforeseen medical issues came up. It's just easier now at the last minute to have the cousin house sit.

yeah, you don't pay housesitters unless your pets are terrible or you have a bunch of plants.

He lives just over an hour away. He works half way between our place and his, so his commute would be the same. No wife, no kids.

If you're going to pay him at least give him a few chores to do. Cut the grass, pressure wash the driveway, mulch the flowerbeds, clean the pool, vacuum your house, shite man, you're losing on this deal the way it is now.
