well one key fact we don't know is how long they've been together. 6 months? Nah, do what you want.

4 years? I'd think he'd be expected to go.

Simple question with simple solution:

Do you want to be the best man?
If yes, then go
If you don't care, then skip

IMO you should go, although my friends/family would understand if I didn't.

He had nothing to do with the scheduling of it. He doesn't even want to go honestly. It was his brothers g/f and his sister and fiances sister who planned it.

He should still be able to veto a date, although I guess you said he doesn't really follow football, so he didn't realize.

Hopefully for you they switch it up. If not, you're probably stuck going. As long as there is a TV showing the game it won't be the end of the world.

This. And they wouldn't be so lame as to announce their Best Man in front of a large group of people like some kind of shitty reality show contest.

And thats what my gf is saying. It wont be the end of the world. Whats worse is that she told me since she isnt standing in the wedding she isnt obligated like me and she may skip and go to the game lol.

I was the best man in my brothers wedding which was the same day as the Florida game '07.

I still regret missing that game.

ETA just saw it is a party and not the wedding... frick the party. Although, it's not like we are contending for an NC or anything this year so it's not like missing previous Bama games.

it's a frickin party. It doesn't matter. 6 months from now nobody is going to remember who was or wasn't there anyway. The wedding? Ok that's a big deal, I can see that. A party? Irrelevant. If he wants to go to the bama/lsu game he should go.

Problem is he is announcing his best man at the party, which is a good possibility I can be the best man.

Wow. I don't know your friend and hate to say something like this about someone I don't know, but that seems like a really conceited thing to do.

Is there a good reason that he's doing it this way? Or does he really think his choice of best man deserves a drumroll unveiling?

BTW, go to the party. Football happens every season. Friends only get married once...or twice.

If it's a party and not the wedding this is what I would do:

1. Frame a big picture of yourself
2. Ask friend to bring said picture to party
3. When you are announced best man ask friend to pop those little plastic party poppers a with the strings... Next to your picture

Crisis averted
