12 yrs old. Picking up dead chickens in a chicken house.

14 yrs old. Worked carrying shingles up a ladder and laying them out on the roof. When I was 16 we were putting the roof on the library at LSU.

I worked for a duck hunting club in high school. I got minimum wage to dig the trinosh (sp) through the marsh, so rich guys could easily push pole to the above water blinds that I also built.

I hated everything about that job. Cutting and hauling the blind dressings, digging the trinosh, driving the pilings, and leaving behind a great blind for somebody who didn't give a rat's arse how hard I had worked. The very worst part is only members could hunt, so I never even got to shoot a duck.

I worked at Arby's on Jones Creek for about 9-10 months in high school. The customers and work wasn't so bad, but lots of petty/political managers and employees, rumors of corruption, and higher turnover than you'd expect even for a fast food chain. It's the only job I've ever been fired from -- made the mistake of choosing a side in the "office" politics, and chose the wrong side.

Second worst might be working as a fire watch/helper for a contractor at Exxon during the summer after high school. Early mornings, long days outside in FRC/hardhat. But the people were cool. And I got to be a runner the last few weeks of the summer, driving around in air conditioned car delivering tools and supplies.

For 5 years in college I worked 5 12’s as a scaffold builder helper in Dow Plaquemine over the summer then umpired at various ballparks on Saturday and Sunday from 7a-10p.

I worked with the shittiest of society in the plant then had to listen to dumb arse dads complain about how their child wasn’t out and he’s the next Jeter.

Needless to say, I hated my life every summer and I loved when August hit so I could be in class again.
