It's genetics and diet.

Bad cholesterol is mostly diet, from what I understand. Good cholesterol is mostly genetic. But, nothing is perfect. As long as your ratio is good, you're good (for the most part).

Just got back from the Dr, and he told me I'd probably have a heart attack before I'm forty b/c my cholesterol is 300 and some other numbers. I will not take pills for it, so he said I have to eat differently to lower it. I guess I could stop eating so much fast food, but what else should/shouldn't I be eating? The internet was all kinds of contradiction, so I couldn't decipher it.

its very simple, write down all the foods you love on a piece of paper.

STOP EATING ALL OF IT!

Yea, I guess what I mean is a certain diet affects people differently based on genetics.

Seriously, the traditional "total" cholesterol is shite, and we KNOW this now, but it takes a long time for change to trickle down.

You should press him for an LDL-P test. This is a much better predictor.

Good Info

Lots of Info

people understand, they just don't have the will power to carry through. hammertime sounds like a fatty. he probably doesn't have the will power neither.

Take the statin and be done with it. Your diet will have to be incredibly strict to lower your cholesterol as much.

oatmeal with blueberries - both will help.

spinach & avocado

Almonds

If you can't eat things like this, and/or eat significantly better, you'll probably suffer a heart attack without meds.

Then your doctor should have referred you to a cardiologist and you need to get on some medication ASAP.

First question..was it a fasting cholesterol? Probably would still be pretty high, but can get temporarily very high with a bad meal.
You dont remember the LDL.....the bad cholesterol? Even tho they have found it is really "not that simple" the higher the LDL the worse. Now they are saying over 90, some still say over 100 and you are in trouble.

i mean i don't blame you for giving up on your life, i would too likely. but you gotta understand, that's the only one you are going to get. take a stand for yourself and grab the bull by the horns and put it in the bucket and frick it. make a weekly diet plan, know your grocery list, eat the same shite every week until you reach your goals. the further you get the more motivated you will be.
