I've determined that you simply aren't a well educated person or you're a troll. For your sake, I hope you're a troll. Merry Christmas.

Ok this is great. so the person can't take their emotional support dog into a store?

Depends on the state, most states do not recognize ESAs. So stores can kick them out without harm. It has to be an ADA recognized disability. Seizure detection is one, just being there for anxiety is not. Most airlines do allow ESAs though.

Who cares, why do you let it bother you? So what if someone is fat, plays video games, and has anxiety. If a dog makes them feel better then so be it. I don't even look twice at things like that. I also don't let it take up more than one second in my mind. Try not to let what other people do bother you and then maybe you won't have anxiety.

Because we allow this shite, and it encourages even more off the wall shite.

Same thing with this gender crap.

You give them an inch trying to be nice and they come up with infinity genders and pronouns and then try to force you to accommodate their mental deficiencies.

Of course not - but I will say this - the vast majority of folks would do much better if told the truth - not without sympathy, but the truth.

And the truth is - the world is tough. If you don't toughen up a little yourself, it will grind you up like a grist mill does wheat. Frankly, someone who is largely incapable of functioning doing normal activities of daily living without an emotional support animal needs to be institutionalized, period.

But we don't do that, anymore. We normalize a lot of this to no good end. I'm certain there are legitimate trauma cases where these animals make a difference - but just like the ADHD drugs - probably overprescribed 100 to 1 or 1000 to 1.

Why? Because there's money to be made.

Well, certification is garbage anyway, you can print a certificate off your computer that you made yourself and it is just as legit as any training program.

The anxiety for people that bring their 'service pets' everywhere, would be better defined as they are worried about not being near their dog.

Eliminate the dog from the equation and that would eliminate the 'anxiety'

I get there are tens of thousands that truly need these animals, but a lot of these people are just the obsessive pet owner types. Like the ones that buy that video camera to say Hi to their dog from work and shite. That's some compulsive shite right there.

this girl is not an obsessive pet owner. Her parents purchased the dog strictly because the doctors believed it was a last ditch effort to curb her erratic anxious behavior.

If I'm not mistaken, the dog cost over $10,000 due to its high level of training.

They did not purchase the dog as a pet. They purchased it as "medication", or rather "therapy".

You mean their insurance risk pool purchased the dog. Folks seem a lot more profligate with other people's money.

My guess is this is just bad psychology. People rather distract themselves externally than truly deal with the internal.

Good luck to them, may just need some tough love. Maybe a bootcamp would help, build up some confidence or something.

Her parents have tried EVERYTHING including tough love at high personal financial cost.

They're to the point where everyone has run out of ideas - hence the service dog.

I just bought the vest so my dog doesn't have to wait in the car everywhere I go.

And yes real service dogs do "work" like some idiots are saying on here they are really working

So when someone is just sitting around in public and carrying on conversations while the dog lays bored at their feet, how does a little girl petting the dog prevent the dog from "working"?

That's ridiculous for an emotional support animal.

I don't care where I am when I encounter a dog. I will immediately smile, ask to meet the dog, hope to pet it, and enjoy the encounter. Doggies are awesome!

I have been told to not pet a service dog but that's ok.
