Do they not salt the roads there?

Well I know most of the salt trucks have been in the North part of the state for a little while but the gov called to move them to South AL. So I don't know how most of the birmingham area missed it.

I walked home a little over 7 miles because there were 2 10+ car pile ups in front of my office. Luckily I had my golf shoes in my truck. Still can't get anywhere the roads are solid ice and the high today is 32.

It's looking like it will be the same tomorrow. Time to hunker down with some beer and gumbo.

I don't get it... I grew up in Colorado where road conditions get far worse than this... Why can't these people handle the road conditions? I know that these states don't have the equipment that Colorado does... But there were many times when the roads were this bad and I never saw anything like this. Is it simply that y'all don't know how to drive in these conditions?

I'm about worn out from the comments about "knowing how to drive in the ice" from these snarky Northerners.

Atlanta and Birmingham were a clusterfrick because everyone was let out of schools and businesses at the same time, then there were a few accidents due to ICY conditions, and everything came to a halt.

Bottom line is that no one is adept at driving on ice, even someone from up north. 1 inch of snow is irrelevant - it is about the ice. Take you're bullshite elsewhere. /rant.

Ice isnt hard to drive on, but keep using that as an excuse.

The North was shut down and devastated by a tropical storm. That's right, a tropical storm was able to shut down they most powerful city in the world. Dont let them say a damn thing to us about weather.

So you're a pro in a normal vehicle driving on icy roads with many hills such as Birmingham and Atlanta?

I played 5 holes at webble beach. Lost some feeling in one hand and decided to pack it in. Can't beat free golf though.

There has been a 2 inch thick layer of ice on all the roads here for the last 2 weeks. We do just fine.

Winter tires? Chains? Surely not in a standard vehicle.

2013 ford escape with factory tires.

Chains are illegal. Very few people use winter tires. I dont know anyone that does.
