Just wanted to serve, become a US Marine and for the personal development.
And also that commercial with the knight slaying the dragon.

Imagine that "gonna end up in trouble". I can't imagine the shite show our military is with all these dumbasses that have to join.
Something I've always thought about, imagine how bad arse our military would be if all the frick ups didn't join and your average hard working guy joined.
You should join man. Imagine how much better it would be with awesome individuals like yourself in the ranks. And by awesome, I mean childeish trolls who think they are better than people they've never met on the internet.

My family couldn't afford to pay for college and I didn't know much about student loans. Apparently my parents made just enough to prevent me from qualifying for grants. Neither of my parents had gone to college and my Dad was a Navy veteran. I liked the idea of getting away and "seeing the world", having my college paid for through the GI Bill and continuing the military tradition of my family. I served from March '86 - March '90.
I was an electrician aboard a guided missile destroyer stationed in San Diego. I spent the first 8 months in Great Lakes, IL for boot camp and apprentice schools. I had ports of call in Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Australia, Diego Garcia, Seychelles, Hawaii, Vancouver, Victoria, Seattle, Acapulco, Monterey and Long Beach. I met lifelong friends, used the VA Loan to buy my first house and the GI Bill to pay for my Bachelors. I earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for my ship's involvement in Operation Nimble Archer in the Persian Gulf in '87. Without a doubt, I got more out of it than I put into it.

I wanted to be in the Air Force as far back as I can remember. Also, my family (on both sides) has a long history of military service. Last, I felt the calling to give back to our country.

Family tradition going back five generations.

I've discussed this before, but the military is nothing more than welfare for those that are either too dumb for school and or too dumb for a real job. They don't know shite about "sacrifice". Maybe they should thank me for paying their bills. fricking leaches
The smartest guy I've ever known was a Marine. He had already graduated from Harvard before he joined and he would talk about nerdy accomplishments as a child like winning the Long Island spelling bee and shite. The dude could still bust out a three mile run in under 17mins with out breaking a sweat though.

Na I've never been big on government assistance. I make a shite load more money than probably 99% of military and don't have to feel guilty about it. If I had been a lazy frick up in my younger days, then I would have fit in perfectly.

the wealthiest guy I know was a Marine, an enlisted Marine, a huge guy in the bidness world, if I told you his name, and you googled it, you'd be impressed, I will say, that he's big into making sure that the annual Marine Corps Ball turns out nicely
