Seriously though, is there a method to choosing? I always just see junk crap when I go to them.

Study and learn a few items (toys, silver, etc) and stick to these.

I mostly buy toys, sports items, political, and "strange" items (like fraternal items from KoC, etc)

What appeals to you?

I would start there.

Seriously, I always just go not really having a plan. I rummage through stuff and see things like old vinyls and stuff, but maybe antique is right, you have to learn about certain items and just look out for those.

Aren't these by invite or registration mostly though?

No, there is at least one in Baton Rouge every weekend, listed in the paper and/or estatesales.net

I also buy things that are so cheap and I don't know the value but figure its has to be worth something.

I once spent 50 cents on a box of train tickets from 1905 to 1932 (they were employee yearly tickets from 4 or 5 different train companies), about 70 tickets in all.

I figured I would easily make $50 for all of them, I sold them for $1200.

Those things or hard to find because they are popular. What else interest you?

That's something I would buy just because I think it's unique and has an interesting story. I would never imagine it to be worth money.

I find these pretty regularly in repo houses and have chunked a few. I guess I need to start keeping them.

VERY HARD to learn (Ive tried). There are so many variants on labels, two records may look exactly alike, but because one has one letter different on the label, its worth $500 and the other is worthless.

On occasions, but "American Pickers" is much better (even though I know most is staged)

Besides money, that's the draw of it. I've bought box of love letters dating back from the 1950's. One of my favorite buys.

I actually have an old Singer machine I picked up form a house. It's one of the first electric machines they made.

Found it at a repo house a while back but I keep forgetting to see what it's worth.

Reproduction GI Joes (5-10 years old), not worth much, maybe $20 each since still in boxes.

They are older than 5-10 actually. Some said made in 1998 and others were in the 80s and yea they are reproductions. I already looked them up and listed them on eBay. Some are $20-$40 depending.

In my business I find shite all of the time people leave behind. I posts about the old gaming stuff on the Gaming Board. I found $1500 worth on old NES and SNES games at one house about 2 months ago.

I once bought a ton of 3 3/4" GI Joes (35 figures) with 90% of their weapons, plus about 50 vehicles/playsets (including the aircraft carrier). I paid $600 sold for $3500, but it took me days to put them with their correct weapons (all weapons were piled in a box).

The figures and vehicles were all 1st Generation (1982-85)
