I went from high 600's (had a lot of brand new debt and stupidly cancelled my older credit lines). Got it up in less than two years by putting almost everything on my American Express Blue Cash Preferred card. I pay it off every month and get pretty good cash back rewards while building my credit score quickly.

I don't think hurts you these days, having a lot of available credit used to look good, now viewed as risky and a negative to your score, screwy system if you aks me

On my Discover bill it says 796.

Age of credit lines is most certainly a factor. Closing old credit cards will cause a negative impact on your score.
Having a low utilization rate will also improve your score so any available credit will be a positive, not a negative.

801, but I'm in the process of buying a house I can barely afford.

Complete opposite of what you just said

764 (don't remember exact as it's been a month or 2)

yeah, I think that's the key right there, there's still probably some gray areas that impact the score either in a good or bad way though, like if you had a 100k loc for 30 years, maxed out, but make timely minimum payments, good, or bad? kind of like a relief pitcher with a 0.00 ERA coming in with 2 outs and the bases loaded and gives up a triple then strikes out the next batter, he gives up three runs but leaves the inning with a 0.00 ERA

well then it's changed with the wind again, the last time that I financed a significant purchase, that was the line that the guy trying to find a lender gave me, years ago when I was younger and gave a shite it was the opposite old enough now that I don't much care, if I want something bad enough I'll get it

And what did you do to get it that high in a year?
Messed my credit up really bad in '03 because of a drug problem. I guess all that shite fell off after 10 years.
