BMI is a waste because it takes doesnt take muscle mass in to consideration.

ETA: 5'10 198lbs = 28.4 BMI. I wear size 32 jeans and am almost obese....sounds about right.

Normal" BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9. So at 6'-3", you'd have to weigh (approx.) between 148 and 200. I got mono my freshman year and dropped to ~165#, making my BMI 19.6 (normal).

Yeah - anyone under 5' even or over 6'2" needs to do a lot more analysis - again, the "mushy middle" it is likely to be a more accurate metric. But, seriously, a 6'3" female at 165 will be rail thin and still have a BMI high of 20 (which is closing in on middle normal).

Likewise, a mature 6'3" male under 200 pounds is going to start to look sickly - unless he is naturally very, very lean (think swimmers and soccer players at that height) - for comparison's sake, Michael Phelps is 6'4", and just under 200 pounds, in competition shape - and I guarantee he drifts over 200 pounds off-season - and he's scarecrow thin.

I'm 6 ft 1 and weigh 210 pounds and got 27.7 which is overweight and almost considered obese. That is insane.

Tap the brakes - you would have to be 228 to be considered obese at 6 feet, 1 inch - that would be almost a 10% increase in your weight - while I agree with you that BMI tends to overstate the problem on a tall person, and, perhaps understate the problem on a short person - if you were not active and 228 pounds, even at 6 feet, 1 inch, you might have to ask yourself some tough questions - particularly as you got older.

29 it was 43 about 5 months ago. Have lost 25 pounds and 3 inches since the 1st of the year. I did it the old fashion way of commitment and exercise. Not thru cheating with a sleeve or gastric bypass surgery.

I used to run about 25 or 30 miles a week and had pretty large thighs. I'm 6'-5" (like most OTers) and weighed about 210#. That put my BMI right at 25 and at the borderline between "normal" and "overweight". I don't know if I have extraordinarily large or dense bones, but at 210#, I'm a LONG way from being "fat".

I'm about the same, but OT midget at only 6'4". I was also borderline overweight, and I'm pretty damn skinny.

So, at 5'11, I'd have to be between 133 and 178lbs to be considered normal? I would be passing out if I weighed 133. No way would I be able to live at that weight. That's skin and bones

Mine is 25.1 now

You want to see some honesty start a thread asking what people's body fat % is. Amazing how many people here are under 8%.

I always laugh at that bc Chris Hawkins was lean as frick and still had like, 7-8%.

I'm an inch shorter and 5 lbs lighter. That measurement is a crock of shite. (Not saying you're lying, just that standard is crazy).

Body type should be considered, no?
