Great cheap fares

Then you have to pay a fee to print out your ticket, a fee to have a carry on, a fee for taking up the ticket counter clerk's time when you are taken aback by the fees, and a fee to process the fees

the savings you get on ticket price are removed by the time you check your bags and print your ticket. If you pack light and just have a carry-on, check in ahead of time and have your boarding pass printed out and don't drink or eat on the plane it's not horrible.

Spend the extra to take a legit airline. If they cancel the flight no other airline will pick up their passengers.

Don't expect your flight to be on time, and in fact expect it to be delayed 5 hours or more. If you are good with that, have at it.

"It has been determined that passengers who like to be prepared tend to have heavier than normal luggage. Therefore, if you bring a parachute there will be a fee of 10 dollars on top of the fee for an additional carryon to help defray fuel costs and to ensure everyone has the cheapest fare possible."

You will also wind up spending more when they cancel your flight and you have to buy a same day ticket on a real airline. They are the only airline I have ever encountered who will not rebook you if they cancel (I.e. If American cancels they just rebook you on Delta and that's it).

On top of all the fees (to print your ticket at the airport, to choose a seat on the plane, to drink water on the plane and I kid you not they tried to charge for bathrooms but the FAA would not let them) they have few flights and even fewer planes. So a rock hitting the windshield in Alaska will cancel your flight in Miami and they'll blame it on weather in Cincinnati so they don't have to refund you.

Honestly, there are no positives to Spirit Airlines. It is awful in every facet possible.

If the flight is under 2 hours and you pack light, you will save some money and it might be worth it. Just know their seats are the most uncomfortable of any airline. They are narrower and with less cushion. Also the least amount of legroom of any airline unless you upgrade.

I've flown spirit a couple of times on a 5 hr nonstop flight and damn it is an uncomfortable experience in those hard tiny seats. And I'm not fat either.

You may want to pay for the even bigger seats if you end up flying them. It's not bad if you add up the baggage, ticket, and printout fees and you're still ahead. Just know that most of the time there's only one or two flights a day on spirit and they're often delayed
