re: What is the deal with colonizing Mars?

The idea is to colonize an almost completely uninhabitable planet by having humans live in artificial bubble style environs for 20,000 years while we terraform the planet to be kind of like earth.
Meanwhile, we have this planet that is going to continue to be perfectly suitable for humans over that time with a few timely cullings of the herd.

The most difficult thing about Mars will be the lack of a protective magnetic field.
Meteorites will rock the shite out of that place

Mars is in space where there's no air or gravity, so we'd have to colonize it with trees before we can live there.
You'd have to use poo.

Mars will never happen..... Elon is a crackhead

Good Gracious you millennial snow flakes are a fracking trip. It's humorous but quite sad that you truely fear the planet will be rendered uninhabitable due to man made climate change. Terraforming another planet's hostile climate is a sci-fi fantasy. The very fact that you think Man can alter & change the Earth's complex atmosphere is proof you've bought into the hoax...lol

I have said before on here I'd do a solo one-way trip if I was 55 and single
Oh it will be one-way.
Not one comment so far about the unsolvable: Radiation
One of the keys to Earth being unique is the Van Allen Radiation Belts. Without them there would be no life.
The radiation levels received just on the trip TO Mars is lethal. Here's a Smithsonian magazine article that touches on it. So far 14 months on the ISS is the max time anyone has spent and the ISS is heavily shielded since it was built over time, unlike a spacecraft which cannot carry the weight of shielding.

Not sure if serious.

ISS isn't heavily shielded. It's inside the Van Allen belts

takes years to travel there?
Actually, NASA has been experimenting on something called an EM Drive that would make travel to Mars about 10 weeks.

The EM Drive has made headlines over the past year, because it offers the incredible possibility of a fuel-free propulsion system that could potentially get us to Mars in just 70 days

NO magnetic field. no atmosphere like Earth's. No matter how many trees are planted. The solar wind would just blow any atmosphere away. The only reason that everything isn't dead on Earth is due to our magnetic field protecting us.

It's got double the shielding of any spacecraft yet.

Well considering at least half of the country believes the crap billionaires w/ a vested interest in denying climate change are spewing, there's a good chance we're irrevocably damaging the environment so we'll probably need a new planet to destroy eventually.

There is nothing that man can do to Earth to make it worse than Mars.

I'm surprised after all the probes of uranus

We can't even make solar energy economical and people think we can create a livable atmosphere for an entire population on Mars...

we can give the planet a magnetic field

Not to mention the "scientists" with a vested interest in keeping that grant money flowing.

If that were the case, maybe we should all think about becoming crackheads.
