Ok, name the last rover that went to Mars on the top of your head. How about the probe that went to Pluto? Now name the first mission that landed man on the Moon? There's a big difference between those three. No one gives a shite about having another droid on Mars. It doesn't produce a new generation of scientists. There's a reason the tech boom started with people who watched the Moon Landing as kids. We need to put man there to come together as a species instead of the stupid bullshite we worry about every day.

Have you been living on Mars? We already do this and will continue to do this. If we find another planet, we will do the same things. It's called being a human. We need/want too much of any environment/planet to sustain.
