Explain the safety part.

The car won't have any trouble holding its cell phone in its right hand while driving with its left hand.

How so? The only accidents driverless cars have been in over the years have been caused by other drivers.

Why do you think that?

You trust other humans to do it though?

I think there is a concept called something like 'tele-commuting' that would work just as well.
Plenty of jobs aren't possible to telecommute for.

The thing is, self driving cars don't really have to be perfect to be a success. They just have to be better than human drivers. And statistically, that's not really that difficult. Human drivers are really bad at driving.
While I do agree, I do wonder how the liability aspect will be handled when the driverless car does screw up and cause a death.

I trust myself to do it. I see electronics fail all the time (instrumentation). And all they are doing is reading something and sometimes telling a valve to open or close.

What about others?

And humans driving, do you not see them fail "all time time?"

Given how new this is and how cars have already performed with auto pilot statistics, do you really think that they'll never be safer than human drivers?

Am I?

So we should scrap this entire idea because of hackers, is that what you're saying?

Also, how many cars today have been hacked so far? Wouldn't right now be the easiest it'll ever be to hack into one?

And there will be an entire industry built around automated vehicular software security, just as there is for mobile phone security. The market will adapt to this.
