12 hours after someone important in my life died there was knock on my home door. This was not some kind of one knock which could be caused by a bird or something. And don't think I just imagined it, my wife and kids came down, they heard it too. This was a clear knockity-knock-knock. I opened the door and there was noone there but there was about two inches of undisturbed snowfall on the ground by my door. Any human knocking, from a criminal to a neighboring prank teen would have left footprints (it was not windy, the snow had not been "blown over").
I told my wife I think that was (person who died) so we lit and candle and told them to stop scaring us and it never happened again.

What would be the valuable things lost if you specifically were completely gone? Try to preserve those things for others and you might find some comfort
Just the human species has been around for 100,000 years maybe. Cumulatively the rise of human accomplishments is pretty impressive

Get fondled in the clouds by faceless spirits.
But it’s a nice sensation. Not at all gropey.

I hope there's some kind of afterlife but I doubt it. Same as before you were born. I try to have faith and think otherwise but I rarely hold on.

There have been many people who have died and been brought back to life. Many say there is an afterlife, and many of them were atheists. You don’t have to guess if you believe them.

obvious what religious folk think.
Christ saves version where meemaw is already in heaven?
the Buddhist version is detailed. outcomes vary greatly according to karma and spiritual abilities.
most get the earth rerun.
some move on to Lighter realms where those more responsible for love and conscious choices are.
quite the opposite of Christ saves you and automatically heaven awaits.

There was a young boy in the Lafayette area who made the news about having very specific memories of people and events from WWII. He was maybe 4-7 years old and would have nightmares about being in a plane crash. His family was deeply concerned and he was taken to a psychiatrist and he had even more memories surface. So the family did research and actually found the name and information of the man who the boy had memories from. They even introduced him to a survivor of the war who knew the deceased man, who confirmed that man had died in a dogfight and the boy had such specific memories of those events that it had to be that man’s soul in that boy. As the boy got older the memories faded. How the eff does that happen?

There were two lovers, who were really into spiritualism and reincarnation. They vowed that if either of them died, the one remaining would try to contact the partner in the world beyond exactly 30 days after their death.
Unfortunately, a few weeks later, the young man died in a car wreck. True to her word, his sweetheart tried to contact him in the spirit world exactly 30 days later.
At the seance, she called out, "John, John, this is Martha. Do you hear me?"
A ghostly voice answered her, "Yes Martha, this is John. I can hear you."
Martha tearfully asked, "Oh John, what is it like where you are?"
"It's beautiful. There are azure skies, a soft breeze, sunshine most of the time."
"What do you do all day?" asked Martha.
"Well, Martha, we get up before sunrise, eat some good breakfast, and there's nothing but making love until noon. After lunch, we nap until two and then make love again until about five. After dinner, we go at it again until we fall asleep about 11 p.m."
Martha was somewhat taken aback. "Is that what heaven really is like?"
"Heaven? I'm not in heaven, Martha."
"Well, then, where are you?"
"I'm a jack rabbit in Arizona."

Well, let me ask you this - do you remember before you were born?
Same thing.

Best case you go on existing on another plane. Or it could be oblivion. Worst case to me is reincarnation. I've already been on this ride. I wouldn't want to get back in line and do it again.

For if believe that Jesus died and rose, so too will God, through Jesus, bring with Him those who have fallen asleep. Thus we shall always be with the Lord.

do you consider what happened before birth to be oblivion?

yes but when people claim oblivion after death, they mean it in an eternal sense.
