i'm more interested to hear from the non-religious/agnostic/atheist types since its obvious what religious folk think.

do you think the most likely outcome is reincarnation? for me, yes....i feel people never really experience death. they only experience the process of dying. once you're dead i think you instantly emerge as a new life form with a different conscience, whether that be a human, ant, cat, or a unknown creature in a different universe or galaxy. you'll have no prior thought/hint/recollection of your past life. even if the actual rebirth occurs 10 million years later from our perspective, the birth would feel immediate to that subject.

the concept of oblivion is impossible to me. if you have no senses when you're dead, then being dead can't be subjectively real.

It's like when you wake up from a deep sleep and have no consciousness of where you are or what's going on. I think it just stays like the deep sleep forever. Like Bobby Bacala said, you never see it coming. And you likely don't see or feel anything else ever.

You think reincarnation can happen without a higher power?

Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain, but I will remain and I'll be back again and again and again....

I’m curious as to what leads you to believe this particular possibility.

I want him to explain how that can happen without there being a higher power

it doesn't have to be a higher power that 'allows' such a thing....maybe it just spontaneously happens. the reality is, we don't fully understand the universe nor consciousness enough to say its a 'higher power'.

In its simplest form, the First Law of Thermodynamics states that neither matter nor energy can be created or destroyed. The amount of energy in the universe is constant – energy can be changed, moved, controlled, stored, or dissipated. However, this energy cannot be created from nothing or reduced to nothing. Every natural process transforms energy and moves energy, but cannot create or eliminate it.This principle forms a foundation for many of the physical sciences.

shite happens. The heaven and hell stories just don't add up to me. To each his own.

“Reincarnation” in that you’d have the same consciousness without memory as your prior existence? No I don’t think that’s possible.

you're making my point though. we were 'dead' for billions of years, but we time skipped all of it, and from our own experience/perspective, instantly emerged into this life form. this, happening again and again is probably all there is to it.

This is the terrifying part of death for me. It's hard to comprehend, but it's what we all experienced before our own birth.

Again I ask, as before, out of curiosity, what makes you believe in reincarnation?

And what do you suppose is the driving force that causes this reincarnation to happen?
