Praying, hoping, and wishing does nothing.
The bible really doesn't say just pray, hope, and wish. It's about finding the right church to fit you, its about a relationship with God, serving people, being a good example, spending time in the word, fellowship, etc. Judging Christianity based on false notions and understanding isn't given it a fair go. To each their own, I just wish more people dove into something and gave it a fair shake before denouncing it. The story of Shark Tooth Mountain is a good example. In order for you to see that there are shark teeth on this mountain, you have to plan it, climb it, and dig for them. If someone tells you there is or isn't, you wont know unless you look for yourself. Just saying you will do it, driving there and turning around, or even getting out of your truck but turning back wont do it. Seek it wholeheartedly and see for yourself. Everyone owes that to themselves.

Low T is real.
I would suggest to anyone over age 40 here to try something I found at GNC called Performix Super T. You take three capsules at night about thirty minutes before you turn in. It takes about a week to start having some effects but it definitely helps bring up your mood and motivation levels. It's not a panacea but it can help jumpstart you into making better decisions. I think low moods are a part of the human condition and you just have to make an effort to do things that support your mental, physical and emotional health. Acceptance and living in the present moment also help tremendously. Life is short. All you have is now to make a difference. Best of luck to everyone posting here!

Drink Beer
This is my struggle. I don't drink that much but I do crave good beer just because I really enjoy the taste and the slight buzz you get. I don't usually drink more than a six pack but even that as you get older makes you feel sluggish, full and slightly down the next day. The less I indulge the better I feel but it is a compulsion I struggle with at times.

I suffer from ptsd due to an aneurysm. If I didn't take Paxil I'd be a crazy maniac. I have all the possessions I need, too. It's chemical. Talk to your primary care physician. Nothing shameful about it.

GNC? Snakeoil.
I'm not certain I want testosterone levels of a 21 year old during my 40's. Testosterone and abnormal levels is linked to heart disease and certain cancers. There is a reason it declines over our lifetime.

I felt the same way, my dog just passed this weekend and it brought life back to me. I miss everything about him and I'm thankful that he was in my life. He has been with our family since I was in high school and I've grown and developed so much in that time. I'm going to miss him so much. Get a dog, walk him, play with him, he'll never leave you and never be upset with you.
Pets are incredible and I think they help most people get out of depression and the cycles of life. When they go you suddenly appreciate everything a little bit more

What do you guys do about depression? I have a hard time believing as well. I believe there is a higher power. But not what's preached on Sunday morning. Fighting with my wife about that makes it worse.
Basic assessment with your PCP. Check basic labs with emphasis on thyroid function and testosterone. Vit D is also important. Current RDA underestimates needs. Need 2000-5000IU daily
Make sure you are:
Sleeping 7.5 to 8 hours at night
Eating clean (reference my post history as I go on about this all the time)

Stoicism differs from most existing schools in one important sense: its purpose is practical application. It is not an intellectual enterprise. It’s a tool that we can use to become better entrepreneurs, better friends and better people.

Fighting with my wife
Even if there's a valid reason, stop doing this as much as possible. Fighting will only make for an unhappy house....which sucks. Other than that, fake it till you make it works for me. After the shower, I give myself the biggest gotdamn "heyyyyy!" thumbs up. I look in the mirror while I'm driving and thank the gods I look so damn good. I force good thoughts to suffocate the bad. After my divorce I had a bad case of don't give a shites and that's what worked for me. Good luck. I know it sucks, but it'll get better.

Do what you want. I hate the everyday mundane life. You get one chance to do what you want and that's what I'm doing. I have a dream and I want to chase it. I'd rather fail at something I want to do than fail at something I didn't even want to do in the first place(Jim Carrey commencement speech). It's hard believe me. But you have to have a positive attitude throughout all the ups and downs. I can assure you that I am in a downward spiral right now but I know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. No matter how small the light may seem or if you think the light is getting bigger and then fades away to a pin hole again, keep pushing forward. I currently live in my truck. Going from parking space to parking space wondering where I will be able to sleep without getting fricked with. It's easy for me to see why desperate times call for desperate measures and why people choose to go the criminal way. I get it. But I was raised to be a fighter and work my way out of my current situation. Doubt is a natural thought process for humans. But positivity will always conquer negativity. Do what you want and stay positive. You'll get to where you want to be.

My GF struggles with depression. I don't have an answer except I just try to be there for her. It's easy for her to isolate herself and I try to keep her connected with the rest of the world.

I got hooked on OT, and it became my medication.
On a serious note, seriously, keep fighting the good fight. Every day above the dirt is a great day.
And have ur t levels checked. It can make a huge difference, if u are at lower levels.

This is a good start, especially the meditation element. My advice:
1) Golden Rule - put yourself first, for now, at all costs. Not as selfish as it sounds.
2) Exercise- from heavy lifting to a simple walk.
3) Routine - if you dont have one, make one.
4) Reading, Learning
5) Purpose- find it. Sounds so generic, but it's not. This will probably be your biggest challenge. Requires self-study, reading, learning and time.
6) Meditation/mindfulness
7) Travel
8) Medication
9) Consider alternative medicine/healing (but first, read/learn)
10) Align with people who are emerging (ie, on the up) from similar situations. Once you start your upward trend, start helping others.

Hey Bud... I know what its like to get depressed.. I never missed a day of work until I got sick in FEB of last year... Was out until this May... I mostly laid around and could ot do much... I would just start crying for no reason. But I guess it was because I wasn't sure where I was supposed to be or what I was supposed to do... I was the bread winner and had to try to rely disability. It was a very hard time for me... The doc put me on celexa. It helped a lot.. Now that I am back at work I don't ned the meds anymore... After 14 surgeries and not knowing if I would ever make it back, It gave me a different outlook on life..... Find something different o do with your spare time..........
