There’s probably 100 office spaces or more on the top floor. No way 2 arses and 6 feet cover that area.

When I was working construction, having a hard hat definitely helped me not get seriously hurt more than once.

It’s not just security theater like our airport TSA. The hearing protection was usually unnecessary, though.

Glad I was wearing a hard hat one night while roughnecking and tripping pipe. Derrick hand needed help up on the boards and the driller told me to help him so I jumped on the elevators for a ride up in the derrick instead of climbing. This rig had shorter bales "the long arms between the blocks and elevators" than the rig I was used to working on so when I stood up I about knocked myself out hitting my head on the bottom of the hook.

I've worked several construction projects through the years and the majority of iron workers I've been around are some strange dudes when it comes to working at heights.

They're up on the antenna atop the Intercontinental Hotel in Los Angeles, adjacent to the PWC building and with the US Bank building in the background.

I'd need to take up smoking meth and at least $100K to take that pic.

...... No safety lines this was still old school roughnecking.

I hated using derrick climbing belts. I worried more about falling while trying to take my belt off and back on. You get 2/3 of the way up climbing you're too tired to be scared of heights.

Climbing belts were fun though coming down the derrick. Because of the counter weight you used your hands and feet as brakes on the outside of the ladder while free falling " gliding" down instead of climbing down.

Nothing overhead yet still forced to wear them.

Flying hazards can definitely happen. Someone loses grip, hammer head flies off, bad strike.

I'm not saying it's always gonna happen, but I definitely understand the logic.

I’ve worn my fair share of them on construction sites and still do from time to time. I had one on today at a data center build.
