I can't make myself reread fiction, and even for nonfiction I will only reread certain select chapters or passages. There is just such a huge queue of important books that I feel that I need to read--and that I never have the time to do as it is--and rereading old stuff would only make the backlog even worse.

Types of nonfiction stuff that I will go back and reread certain portions of:

Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces

Norman Cantor's The Civilization of The Middle Ages

F.J. Sheed's Theology and Sanity

The Portable Carl Jung

A phenomenal book that I've read several times. I loaned it to someone years ago and it is out of print.

"you know what the drunks told Jesus? You keep dropping that cross and they will kick you out of this parade."

I have never heard anyone mention it. I'm going to Amazon now.

Yow. That's my list of books I've tried most often to read. Except Shakespeare; can't say how many times I've reread Richard III, MacBeth, JC, Lear and so forth. You're a poetry reader too? Do you subscribe to the monthly, Poetry? $26 a year if you're not already a subscriber.
