If your insurance premiums doubled and coveraged decreased circa 09-14 and you've decreased your contribution to 401k, is it bad that I may need to rely on one of those programs when I'm 70?

I wouldn't say bad, but it does sound like you were doing thing to try and not be dependent on it. Shite happens sometimes.

Right not, the plan is to retire at 46. in 5 years. Whoot.

Very impressive. I'm shooting for 55 years old, 5 years from now. I just have to save 4.5 years of money to live on so I can bridge myself to the age I can start removing money from retirement accounts.

I do plan on about 4 trips per year, less if I go international.

My family owns a hotel. They're gross but I'd rather stay in one than a camper.

Camper > hotel room. And it's not even close.

In my camper I've got all the comforts of home and I don't have to get grossed out over the layers of built up filth and germs from strangers coating literally everything in there.

You going with brand new or looking to find a deal on a barely used one?

I'm leaning heavy on the barely used side. Figure I can get the camper and truck for 25-35 less all together and then sell them when I'm done making my cost only in the 25k range

Right now I'm planning new as far as the Toy Hauler is concerned. I'll want one that's still got all it's life left and also has a good warranty. As for the truck, if I can find a good used late model, low mileage, and with plenty of warranty left, I'd consider it.

Sarge RVS and Specialties on 290 just west of Huffmister is where you need to go. Anthony is honest and has a decent selection.

A lot of people buy new RVs, use them a few times and then park them. ( Just ask my Dad) The value of those things from brand new to slightly used falls off a cliff.

No phones.
Gonna see the dust trails in the distance when you visit.
Need me? Call the local grocery and leave a message. I'll call you back when I go to get my milk and bread.

Right now retirement plans are a moving target. I was planning on 6 more years but we're expanding our business and I'm thinking that I'll stay in it up to 10 more years. Growing the business provides the opportunity to get FU money and that's too enticing to pass up.

I appreciate the recommendation but I'm still a few years out, thinking I'll buy a set up when 55, so 9 years to go.

I'll have two pensions (wife's and mine) plus my investments. Looking at 50-55, depending what I buy.

I'm hoping to retire by my mid-50's but to do all I want to do, I may have to go to closer to 60.

Most of these frickers will be too bored or too poor to retire as well and as early as has been discussed here. Good for them if they can pull it off. I plan on working until about 75. I would be bored otherwise.

no kids really helped. I figure I will save about 250-300k for each kid I didn't have.
