San Diego Zoo is incredible.

Safari Park in Escondido is legit as well. One of the best Tiger Exhibits I've ever seen (not counting Mike's)

I've been to:

San Diego (and Safari Park)
London
Sydney
Audubon
BR
Sonoran Desert (Tucson AZ)
Riverbanks (Columbia SC)
National Zoo (DC)
Singapore Zoo Night Safari

San Diego is the best; nothing really compares. London and Sydney had some really unique things that made them great. Each zoo I've been to has a different feel and focus so I've enjoyed myself at all of them.

San Diego is in another level.

Audubon is actually very very good for a smaller city.

Lion country safari in west palm beach is great as well. You drive through.

FIFY. BREC has run that institute into the f$&king ground to justify moving it and building a new one. How they allowed the zoo to lose their elephants was shameful.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in CO Springs is fantastic. It’s built on the side of a mountain so you have great views of the city.

Same mountain where NORAD used to be tunneled in, by the way.

It's been years since I went there, but the Minnesota Zoo outside Minneapolis was pretty nice.

The Little Rock zoo was kind of sad. The animals all seemed a little depressed and listless. Then again it was about a 1000 degrees on the day we went.

We were members of Ft. Worth and Dallas when we lived in DFW. Also members of the Dallas World Aquarium, which is really cool. We were members of the Nashville Zoo, but it is pretty average to me.
