My wife (of a month now) and I wanted to start saving for a down payment on our first home together after our lease in downtown Houston ended in August. We decided to take her parents up on their offer of moving into their detached garage apartment for a year paying a low rent; one of the worst decisions I've ever made and has caused fights due to being in such a close vicinity to her parents.
It leads to imposing questions on my job (I'm an home office marketing rep and they question my work ethic), being involved with their problems, my wife feeling like she's in the middle, lots of "you hate my parents" and "you don't even try" thrown my way, and a subconscious resentment and feeling that I would rather go out of my way to stay out of their house and keep to myself than deal with the things that make me resent them.
It's an overall bad situation that should have never happened but, by August and (hopefully) some form of a bonus check, we will have enough to make our move.
