Less crowded than S. La. Outside of that, not nearly as much difference as people think.

This. Every time. It's usually along the lines of "where did you live before you lived in Louisiana?".

A lot of people don't realize that people from New Orleans sound a little different than the rest of the state.

I usually don't get a lot of questions when I say Louisiana because I'm in Houston now and I feel like half the city has ties to Louisiana.

Yep, that's what I told that to my buddy at work. I said "maybe there is something to this southern hospitality thing."

Back at the Ole War Skule, I'd tell everyone I met that wasn't from Acadiana that all Cajuns have webbed feet.

Never got called on it once.

Posted by TouchedTheAxeIn82 on 1/10 at 7:33 pm to Circle K Beggar I've never met anyone who admitted they were from Louisiana (although I had a girlfriend who admitted her parents were from LA), so I'll ask in this thread: Do you guys eat a lot of nutria? And how come on the OB board no one admits to hunting nutria?

Some people do because the state puts a bounty on them (they're an invasive species that destroys levees and marsh grass which greatly contributes to coastal erosion). Most people don't eat them because they aren't particularly tasty (tried it once, pretty bad), but there are some recipes.

Most people hunt them for the bounty and for their furs which are incredibly soft and are used as a cheaper alternative to mink.

Not from LA (MS), but it depends on how big of assholes they are and where they're from. I'm on the road constantly around the north east right now, and I've found that my worst reception is in Philly, where these guys are just generally fricking assholes, but I fortunately have a sharp tongue to guard myself from them. New Yorkers and Bostonians are more intrigued than rude to me, to where I don't mind hanging with them. The others really don't give a shite.

But seriously, frick Philadelphia. Nothing but assholes in that city. I think that one guy that was treated like shite (pretty typical) in that city sarcastically called it "The City of Brotherly Love" and these people were too fricking stupid to realize he meant it incredibly ironically.

For like 3 years after Katrina I traveled a lot and I'd always get pitty and ask if I needed anything. Then I explained I didn't get impacted because I was 100 miles away from NOLA.

One day I was in a Forrest Hills, NY library one evening for an audition my niece was doing. Me, being the hick that I am, got bored and my phones battery had croaked out. I had to find something to read and the ladies working there were kind enough yo let me take some magazines into the auditorium from the periodicals section even though I wasn't a member.
They asked if I was from that area and didn't act the least bit surprised when I said NE Louisiana.
Ironically there was a young man there from Mangham, LA auditioning for hype play also. He was just there for the Ysummer with his dad.
This was the pre- Duck Dynasty days. If this were to happen today they probably would asked me if I knew them.

They often times might say you don't sound like you're from the South.
