I felt uncomfortable in a swimming pool until I was 6. I got tired of watching my friends swim and of me standing in the shallow end, so I just threw myself into deeper water and just flailed away. I remember the day very well and was elated over not sinking to my death.

As a kid I was good enough not to drown. Was 28 before I learned proper technique. About a year later I could do a 30 minute mile.

I was 5 and my dad threw me in a canal on some Eve's Bayou type shite. After that he signed me up at the Y for swimming lessons.

8 - I failed at the YMCA but my step father threw me into the Chesapeake Bay and I started swimming. Maybe the salt water helped with buoyancy and gave me confidence. He was also right there.

Never learned and I'm 32. No one ever pushed me to learn and after a traumatic event in Hawaii I never wanted to get into water I can't touch the ground. If I can touch the ground I can swim, but poorly.
