weather hysteria?

I teach at a local college and I was shocked to learn that they cancelled classes tomorrow. I have lived here all my life and I can not recall this level of weather hysteria ever. Are we going to start shutting down every time it rains?

People have died already, no?
No school wants to be the one that had a student die. Lawsuits out the arse.

Lawsuits.
Bingo.
All it takes is for some to get killed going to work and here comes... "Get with Gordon" or Morris Bart.

1. Hysteria fueled by 24 hr news cycle/social media. Your administrators have probably been reading the TD threads.
2. However, the shite was really bad in N. LA and if it's anywhere near that bad in S. LA, you don't want people out in it unnecessarily.

I don't see real businesses shutting down for every weather mischief.
Lawsuits, maybe, but IMO they just shut down to get out of having to go to work.

Think about this. If state offices have closed in your area, you have school, employee or student gets killed in accident, how would that be defended in court? Like they have all said above me, law suits.

I'm quite sure no one can be held responsible for an "act of God." I think the problem is that if one component shuts down (say state offices) then someone might be able to go to court with that. I still argue that we've gotten overly hysterical about the weather and I'm getting tired of it.
