Does it have an agitator?

any oil on the floor beneath it?...

I don't see any oil and I just checked and realized that it is not agitating either. It must be the belt right?

This sounds stupid, but if it's front loader you might be able to take out filter, could be clogged bad, and then you'd have to take it apart.
Again sounds stupid but this can be a cause

that is what I was thinking. I would not touch a thing until you hear from napoleon, though.

bad lid switch
then reading on, i'm not sure.
If it's a Whirlpool or Kenmore top load it's your coupler or the belt depending on model /year.
GE, it's the motor or lid switch.
reply with your model number and your symptoms.

Has this happen yesterday, turns out that the machine got off balance during a spin cycle and disengaged the motor. It might be as simple as readjusting the machine to level.
