the basement comment is part of a standard NWS warning text that they tack on the end of any tornado warning across the country.

Well they didn't credit or cite the NWS and quite frankly they put the release out there like it was their own wording/comments

But like somebody said, this will benefit the 7 people in South Louisiana who have basements

You are a complete buffoon if you can't tell a canned statement at this point in your life.

The statement even includes what to do if you don't have a basement, immediately after you stopped quoting it for your thread.
quote:

The safest place to be during a tornado is in a basement. Get under a workbench or other piece of sturdy furniture. If no basement is available, seek shelter on the lowest floor of the building in an interior hallway or room such as a closet. Use blankets or pillows to cover your body and always stay away from windows.

You can have that stinky, nasty, musty place (I doubt it's much better now than it was 20 years ago).

I'll take my chances with the tornado. Maybe this time I'll land my house on Nancy Grace and do the world a favor.

My old home by Jefferson Ave & Claiborne had a "basement" that was actually only 4' underground with the remaining above ground. The house was an bungalow style with the main living area beginning in the 1st floor (the one fully above ground and was more like floor 1.5). The garage & laundry room was on the lower level on one side and we converted the other lower side to a basement apartment that we rented to a Tulane student. It flooded every 2 years or so, though

the media don't have to credit the NWS when disseminating warnings, the NWS is the sole provider of weather-warnings in the US, the medias job is to help get those into the public domain. So anytime you get a weather watch or warning, it's coming from the NWS - and the wording is general pretty standard for tornado warnings.

I know of houses in Natchez with basements.

Well big freaking difference man. Natchez is several hundred feet up from the river on a huge bluff / river terrace and the ground level is well above the top of the water table.

I have a basement in BR. There are many in the garden district that have them. Several on state street too
