Use a commercial Vitamix at work. Nothing bad to say about it other than it is expensive.

Use our pro CIA Vitamix every day. It's great. Can be loud.

I've used both quite a bit, and my vote would be for a Blendtec

I think a vitamix has a few more pieces.

But otherwise it is a BMW vs. Mercedes type question.

I have a Blendtec and love it.

YouTube search "will it blend" thing is amazing.

Blendtec. Same power, same results, extra options (definitely get the Twister Jar), and doesn't need 3' of vertical clearance. I've had mine for a few years now and use it almost weekly for soups, smoothies, and hummus.

Can your "blender" make soup? Spin so fast that it heats it while blending it?

Can your blender blend marbles into powder? Check out the blendtec YouTube videos.

Are there some sort of daily life activities that call for this?

Correct... But my $30 blender isn't capable of making smoothies that pass through a straw because it can not crush the ice completely.
