Need some help from the OT.

A group of friends and I are going up to Virgina Beach for a 40th birthday this summer.

Any information on where to stay and what to do would be very appreciated.

We have never been and only one person lives about three hours away in Virginia, so we are pretty clueless.

Thanks

I've always found this so weird. It's Virginia's biggest city but has absolutely nothing to do basically compared to Arlington, Richmond, hell even Lynchburg and Bristol.

Doesn’t Rex live there? I really have nothing to add other than there is a dog rapist there

why Va beach? Just go to outer banks... If you must, I would avoid the boardwalk as much as possible but that’s where all the hotels are. Locals go to north end and sandbridge beach. There are some good seafood spots around chicks beach on the bay side.

The naval base boat tour iin norfolk s really cool, they take you down ship row and explain each ship, take you out to the bay entrance and then turn Around

You could drive an hour north to Williamsburg where I used to live, Jamestown/colonial Williamsburg/Busch gardens/Yorktown all in that area

Not much else in va beach. They have Top golf, dave and busters, and anything else ordinary

Go across the bridge to Cape Charles. There's basically no people so you have space and there's 2 bars I believe. Just go and get absolutely hammered. Not a bad amount of talent either if y'all are single. My best friend had a beach house there our entire lives and we've torn that entire town up. Very quiet but a blast when you add alcohol. But it's also possible that the good memories for me are the nostalgia speaking

Yeah we are really pretty clueless. Group of college friends going up to Virginia for our boys 40th. He just moved from Vermont to Richmond. He has 3 kids so looking to get away.

The thought was it is a beach got to be a lot of drinking going on.

That really is the main point of the trip. I am open for better options. Really just needs to be within a couple hours of Richmond

I think y’all might have more fun in DC or a cabin in the mountains like smith mountain lake or something around roanoake. Both less than 3 hours.

Don’t come here. It f’ing sucks. Like was said earlier, go to Outer Banks or Cape Hatteras. Sandbridge is a nice part of Va Beach, and maybe the boardwalk, but it still doesn’t compare anything to the gulf beach towns. If you like to golf, there’s about 20 courses around here and one of the better Top Golfs I’ve played at with a good food and drink menu. I’ve been here 2 years and am ready to move next year

I live in the Hampton Roads area now. I would suggest any other beach in the United States.

Yep

Hotel prices are obscene in the summer for a place that sucks so hard

You are going to be sorely disappointed. I was stationed there for 4 years. The coolest (and that's a stretch) strip of bars was probably in the Ghent section of Norfolk. Go west towards the mountains or north towards DC for fun. Va Beach sucks.

ETA: And the traffic is fricking horrendous down there too.

VA beach is ...okay. nothing to special for the amount of traffic and people. If you're wanting to hit up bars/club in a beach setting that's nearest to Richmond...then I guess that's where you go.

Otherwise if you just want to byob,.hang out on the beach, and booze it up. Outer banks is 45mins to hour further and much better(nags head, Avon NC).

Ocean City MD is a better party experience and things to do over VA beach if you want to head that direction instead little further and traffic heading up though.
