I'd would go there if the city would make some sort of effort to keep the area safe.

Quite the overreaction. Just like any other urban city, know where is safe, know where isn't,and maybe don't walk around by yourself at 4:30 in the morning (I assume the victim was drunk, but don't know for sure, so I won't comment on that).

Seems to be the excuse made every time this happens in Nola...

The reason New Orleans will never get better, is because of the attitude shown in this thread. "Just dont go there" "what was he expecting to happen"

That attitude is why our school system is failing, we have a massive poverty and crime issue, and a plethora of failing and run down housing projects laid out nicely throughout the city?

Dont live in Old Metry. Like I said, it just sucks we let the city get like that. New orleans is a great city but we have nobody to blame but ourselves about the crime

What I said was in response to never going to the Quarter, not excusing what these thugs did.

past midnight, those streets past bourbon towards rampart are all shady as frick and they will most certainly rob you. I've been followed multiple times, I've only been had once.

No good reason to be above Bourbon after dark. It just gets worse and worse as you go away from the river there.

That was the last time, not in a combat zone, that I specifically went looking for my gun and said to myself, "You have no business being here" - I took a wrong turn in my car (thank goodness), in the early morning hours (again, thank goodness, shortly after dawn) and ended up on the other side of Rampart in an "apartment complex with significant street cred."

I don't know how to tie a regular tie, I've been wearing them for 18 years since I was shipped away to boarding school.

I don't like to go down there either anymore. Just too many degenerates, alcohol and drugs. Bad mix.

But what does New Orleans thimk will happen? The laissez faire and apathetic attitude that this city fosters seeps into every realms of life.

You nailed it strong. Nobody to blame but ourselves.

It has nothing to do with an apathetic attitude

It starts with education. You can't help people that don't want to be helped. No education leads to no money which leads to blacks doing shite like this.

This didn't happen because people don't care. That's horribly idiotic

but it's the biggest money maker NOLA has, the centerpiece of tourism...should be the rarest occurrence ever

I've been to nola quite a bit and I don't venture off of Bourbon or Canal at night, but what is the solution to something like this?

Since these things are so damn common, would it be possible for "sting operations" where they have undercover officers walk alone in plane clothes with a group of police officers trailing him. If they walk around from 2-4 am long enough they are bond to try and get robbed a few times. This would at least put the scum bags on alert and maybe think twice before doing theses things. I mean honestly there is nothing in place to stop these things.

I know the simple answer is probably the NOPD is way to corrupt to even attempt something like this, nor do they seem to care.

Conceal Carry and not afraid to use it will cure some of this.

For the amount of people that come in and out of the area, it may well be. Does anyone have any figures on the amount of crimes compared to the amount of people that go there?

How many other cities chief tourist attraction come with a disclaimer, "hey, don't go anywhere alone or it's your own fault of you get victimized"?

The educated ones like us posting in this thread are doing nothing to try and make it better though. We give the same excuses every damn time it happens

sue me.

My groomsmen tied my long tie for my wedding. They're more comfy, easier to tie and just better. Hopefully the bow tie trend can die so I can go back to dressing how I like without being considered trendy...some guy I've never met, approached me to talk about our bowties...ugh.

First I never said it was the victim's fault.

Second, if I'm in a city I don't know, I'm not wandering around at 4:30AM by myself.
