That's actually kind of genius. Work the business itineraries at peak times and play the odds. Hold out for the double and triple pays if you are feeling confident.
Supposedly there's a whole subset of people that do this.
I was reading how one guy spent a weekend in Miami after pocketing $2700 for vacation. $1350/each way.
Convince them to throw in hotels and a car rental and they'll essentially pay for a small vacation.

Yep. It's an easy drive.
Take the $800 voucher, have United rent a car for you, and drive the five hours. You'd be getting to your destination about three hours later than had you been able to take the flight.
In most circumstances I would not take the voucher if I need to be somewhere. Also not worth driving all night to get home.
In most circumstances, I wouldn't take the voucher, either, but as often as not, it's as easy on your life to just drive 4 1/2 or 5 hours down 65 rather than having to deal with the shite show that is O'Hare. Trust me on this one.

This. I will always fly JetBlue just to avoid this situation.
That's also a brave way to treat ticket paying customers.

I may get one $400 one a year now.
Was offered $1,200 by Delta on ATL-AMS (same flight 24 hr later) on my way over to Berlin a month ago, would've taken it had I not needed to get over there for work. Only flights I don't see oversold by DL are the ones into/out of BR

The issue of oversales is covered in the contract of carriage, which you agree too when you purchase your ticket.
The airlines don't randomly select people to deny boarding to, it's usually the cheapest fare who booked last/checked in last.
Also, if he absolutely had to be in Louisville the next day he shouldn't have booked the last flight of the day to his destination.
Plus if the deadhead crew didn't get on then you'd have a whole delayed/cancelled flight in Louisville the next day. Inconvenience 4 people > inconvenience an entire flight.
Not much sympathy, but this should have been handled at the gate and not onboard.

Overbooking flights should be illegal punishable by 1,000 years in jail. I hate that shite.

I United engaged this policy more often more people wouldn't be willing to fight to the good fight when it happened to them. The good news is that United stock is up today almost 1.24% while Delta is down .25% which means that stockholders want more of this type of physical ousting of passengers when they overbook flights.

Which is chicken shite. It seems like United deserves every minute of this press coverage.

Again. LOL if you think Jet Blue doesn't oversell.

Before they added the 717 and only had 1 or 2 CR7's I'd rack up VDB's on the CR2's

Oversold situations
JetBlue does not overbook flights. However some situations, such as flight cancellations and reaccommodation, might create a similar situation. For more information about your options and compensation, please see Sections 27 and 38 of our Contract of Carriage.

I know exactly what they advertise and market. They have VDB and IDB situations reported to DOT at a rate 2x higher than United in 2016.

FYI: When it comes to volunteering to take a later flight in exchange for future free flights...
I'm a whore.
I once took two consecutive bumps from two different flights and spent most of the day at BTR.

Why in the hell would they let too many people board the plane, knowing that there were employees that also had to board the plane? If they did not realize it until the last minute, that's on them. They should have found another flight for the employees, even if on a competing airline
Incompetence. I stopped taking United and started using American when I had to travel a lot and was much happier.

I use to live in Chicago and travel a lot, I know.

Well first of all, when you fly stand by you wait til plane is boarded. If plane is full, that's too bad, you just have to wait for the next one. They never let me book when flying stand by.

frick that and frick you. No one should be physically removed from a plane if they paid for a ticket and checked in and boarded on time. Considering the authorities were called in, I'd say this is an excellent opportunity to change regulations on what airlines are allowed to put in their contracts.
