Son (13) is in a wheelchair. Looking for good / accessible places to go on vacation. Of course Disneyworld is an option, but looking for others options.

TIA

Honestly, I can't imagine any place that is not specifically made for handicapped kids that would go the extra mile for whatever y'all need like Disney would

ETA: not to say there aren't any, I just know Disney goes the extra mile in everything

We were out in Utah at Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks earlier this year. Every major viewpoint and the highly-popular trails/paths were all wheelchair accessible. Wife and I were actually impressed with the accessibility.

don't know if this a possibility but if you go to FL have you looked into the Dolphin Research Center or places like it?

Same with Rocky Mountain National Park. Tons of accessible paths. Beautiful just driving around too- you could drive him up Mt. Evans on the way (14k,000+ ft).

This year I had my first wheelchair bound student in my class. I have learned that we could go everywhere with him that we could go with the other students. There is almost nowhere these days that is not wheelchair accessible. Dealing with a 13 year old however.....lol
Just stick with the basics and while researching the trip, just ask

National Ability Center
Park City, Utah

Save some cash, get a plan together and go there this winter. It is on the PC mountain. Or call them and find out if they have summer programs in addition to their winter programs.

Rent an RV and take him on a road trip across the country.

Also. They make wheel chairs for the beach. You can rent them anywhere.

I take my disabled daughter to Morgan's Wonderland in San Antonio. It's built specifically for disabled kids and is wonderful but depending on your sons cognitive level, he might be a little too old for it.

I've been there a few times, I don't know what it is about the relationship between the dolphin and the kids are but it's almost like magic, the kids really open up and react like the parents have never seen before, I don't know the nature of your child's physical issues but if it's at all possible to get in the water with the dolphin it's incredible, the dolphin and child seem to bond, the dolphin is real gentle and protective, have fun on the vacation

He's able to get in the water with help. He's actually been to Atlantis and swam with the dolphins a few years ago. Wasn't wheelchair bound at the time, but was significantly limited with his mobility. He absolutely LOVED IT!!! Looking at another Disney cruise with a stop in Atlantis again.

Disney really goes above and beyond with wheelchair access.
