I thought it was only one had a blank and all the others were live. Otherwise you run the risk of not killing the guy with only one shot.
Who do they even call to be on the firing squad? Do they have training on the process of it? Imagine being someone getting a call to be on the firing squad.

Only "clear cut" cases are supposed to be convictions. That's the whole beyond reasonable doubt standard. If juries actually followed that standard, there'd be fewer false convictions. But as it stands, guilty is guilty and there's no tiers of who is guiltier. The only difference in La is it takes 12 jurors to convict for a death penalty instead of the usual 10.

What about for mass murderers and real war criminals?

I thought it was 4 live rounds, 2 blanks, and one super soaker?

Climate change. Gotta conserve the water.

Five golden rings, four calling birds, blah...
The guy with the blank probably knows he fired the blank. If you used the same rifle for training and practice as long as they do, you'd know. I'd make a pact with the rest of the squad to not admit to having the blank.

It was volunteer law enforcement officers last time firing squads were legal. No idea how they plan to do it this time.

more likely that not this will continue until the death penalty is abolished.
Ehh.. Science and DNA evidence is pretty significant nowadays and a large portion of the exonerate onset were due to modern DNA evidence /practices.
I agree with you that it's not much of a deterrent but I think it should still be on the table when there is a significant amount of DNA evidence.

Death penalty only makes sense to me when there is crazy amounts of evidence and a confession.
A "no doubter" if you will. It would probably be a fraction of death rowers today.
And in those cases, there should be an expedited death process to save the state time and money.

I'd rather just do away with it. Pointless if you ask me, I don't see a situation where I get satisfaction or closure from someone else dying.
It's not about that, it's about justice. The most precious thing you can take from someone is their life and the only just punishment for such a crime is that the anyone who does this is they likewise lose their life.

frick yea, GUNS. I love guns.

I agree the death penalty has become too costly and prolonged for it to provide any real deterrent effect. Nobody considers the death penalty before committing a crime because they know they will have 20 years of appeals before anything happens. However, this is the only way To insure no one is wrongly executed.
After coming to that conclusion I started reading the stories of the recently executed in Louisiana, and those sick frickers deserve to die.

Eh, when the condemned spend 20+ years on death row before the actual execution, it essentially is life without parole already. Besides, I'd consider something like a supermax prison to be way worse than death.
