I don't think they know but when they fire the rifle they should be able to tell if I'm not mistaken.

I don't understand why they simply don't fill a gas chamber with nitrogen and use that method. The prisoner would suffocate after losing consciousness instantly.

Nitrogen method would be cheaper. Prisoner would drop like a sack of potatoes in an instant.

yeah , i don't have a lot of experience with rifles but, i always imagined it would have a different feel.
wasn't it kept a secret so that each member could deny killing the person or something like that?

Something like that. On NPR yesterday, someone said that the last time Utah used the firing squad was 2010, and the individual was killed by 5 officers. I found it interesting how they worded that.

BBC did a story on it. There is a room with a wall with slits in it. The shooters stand on the other side of the wall and fire through the slits.
