That's what I don't get. Someone makes a "grown up" decision and they turn their backs on you and call you a scab or rat! We are here to make a living. Until the USW signs my check I will not buy into their childish games.

brother one day, a scab and a rat the next day when someone makes a decision to support their families. What kind of people who do that to someone else.
Sounds like a typical LSU fan

You have to be kidding me? These people are scabs because they are fed up with playing the union's games and want to go back to WORK to support their families? How can the other union members stand being around a sign listing their co-workers as scabs? No way I would just turn a blind eye to that. I would either
tear it down or cross the line, one of the two.
When I was working for GM (non union) years ago, The union put out a monthly news letter in the plant. On the back, it would List XXXX members strong and XXX non members. It would then list out the non Union members name, shift, area, and Job location in the plant. The committeemen would also make their rounds daily to harass these people as well as any temps working there that decided to not join the union

GM let that shite happen? What a fricked up company.

I'm at the Norco Hall today. There is a list of "Scabs" that's only about 20 names.
Keep in mind they probably don't want to put too many names on that list. More people will be encouraged to cross the more people they see crossing. The last number I heard was 117.

Very true. I'd imagine that number may very well double if nothing is done on Wednesday.

Don't know if you can say or not, but what was the last offer shell made?

Well it depends on how you classify Harass. There was never any threats from what I saw, but it was at least a weekly visit to "talk" to people. Like Jehovah witness, Make them see the light. It was always "why don't you Join?, We can protect you when no one else will, If it wasnt for the union, you wouldn't have this job, You owe it to us, we fought hard to get you this pay, we fought hard to get you in here as GM would not agree to hire temps" etc etc.
If you called one out or reported them, it was defended by "he is just speaking with his "constituents" and "hopefulls"
Someone posted earlier on here that union folks get fired all the time. I cant speak for the USW as I have never dealt with them but the UAW is a fricking joke. Literally, you could do what ever you want short of sneaking in ISIS members and taking part in a Massacre, and would still have a job.
I have seen vehicles deliberately wrecked, People smearing shite (real human shite) on walls, Physical altercations by high up Union guys, People under the Influence of drugs and Alcohol, Break time and Lunch time beer fest in the parking lot, shitty workmanship to be moved off the line, direct insubordination followed by classy words that would make Kayne blush, and sex in bathrooms. All of those instances resulted in no one being fired and the ones who were "Suspended" were brought back a short time latter and paid for their time away.
The only sure fire way to get out the door was missing un announced or showing up late repeatedly. and even then, that took an act of congress

I don't see anything changing Wednesday. The company has no incentive to give in at this point and union is too stubborn to realize they're not going to win this battle over contractors. The folks negotiating the contract aren't going without a paycheck.

I can only speak for what I have seen as well. Working in union and non-union jobs I have seen people dodge the guillotine that I would swear would get them fired. The stories I have read in this thread about the UAW makes it seem like there were serious failures in the union management and company management of the union.
Safety is the main thing I see workers get in trouble for. LOTO and bypassing critical safety equipment. Luckily it isn't a true zero tolerance if one of these rules are broken. Getting a day in court gives a chance to explain you actions, usually that day doesn't come until after termination though. Hence the union "saves their job"
It is an imperfect system.

The comments I have read in this thread indicate the same for USW.

I haven't read the whole thread, but the UAW guys don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to "leading the way" on safety issues. They probably have the most lax safety standards of any industry out there.

No doubt, it seems like they could handle this situation better if all of the rumors are true.

Drugs, theft, and intentionally falisifying documentation (which is hard to prove) are the only ones I have seen.
What about the guys who were fired for surfing porn on their work computer? The USW actually took those cases to arbitration because they "weren't warned" before they were fired. That didn't fly because they had taken a CBT that warned against doing it.
Posted on 3/2/15 at 8:44 pm to JonTheTigerFan
Yes. That too will get you fired.
Taking that to arbitration seems like a waste of dollars and time.

Yeah I might apply for it.

Shell gave us a link on the newsletter I received today, but go figure it's only a available on their network, but that's the public link they gave us. I'm not sure what's all in that link but I'm sure there's something.
