What a terrible fricking animal these parents raised
Nothing remotely "human" about behavior like this.
Truly sickening.

Nah.
No intent.
Manslaughter, dui.
5 years. Mandatory treatment for drugs. Will be tested for psychosis.
For those debating murder / other homicide charge, the article actually says what she is currently charged with:
quote:
Sanchez is now in the Merced County Jail on charges of vehicular manslaughter while under the influence and DUI.
Looks like regular vehicular manslaughter. Unbelievably this is actually a "wobbler" crime in CA which means it can be either a misdemeanor (up to 1 year in jail) or a felony (up to 4 years in prison). Surely with the evidence in this case they will at least make this felony vehicular manslaughter and I expect give the maximum sentence of 4 years given the aggravating circumstances of using her phone/FB Live like she was doing.
I would also not be surprised if they changed the charge to "Gross Vehicular Manslaughter." This is a felony and carries a max sentence of 10 years in prison. Surely the evidence here establishes the "gross negligence" needed for this more serious charge. If this isn't "gross negligence" then what the hell is?

Any of those sentences are too light for this crime.

Her parents aren't mad
Really easy to see where she gets it.
At least the courts are acting like they should.

She pleaded Not Guilty but...
Really easy to see where she gets it.
quote:
Sanchez’s father, Nicandro Sanchez, asked the judge to lower the bail so his daughter could come home or return to foster care, he said through an interpreter. “I don’t have any resentment for what she did,” the dad said.
quote:
Speaking to reporters outside the courtroom, her father said the family still is coming to terms with one daughter dead and another behind bars. “I don’t know why or how, but it’s happened,” he said.
At least the courts are acting like they should.
quote:
A Merced County judge Friday refused to lower the bail for a teenager who authorities said was drunk last week when she live-streamed both herself driving and the aftermath of the crash that killed her sister. Bail for 18-year-old Obdulia Sanchez will remain at $560,000 despite her defense attorney calling it excessive and her family saying they do not hold ill will against her. Her public Defender, Ramnik Samrao, requested that the judge lower it to $200,000.
quote:
California Highway Patrol investigators have said she had a blood alcohol content of .106 after the crash. Sanchez is both a danger to society and a flight risk, according to Harold Nutt, Merced County chief deputy district attorney. Sanchez has been living in foster care in Tahoe, he noted. “It’s only by the grace of God that she didn’t hit another car,” he said. “We’re just lucky that didn’t happen.”

Prosecutors say the video will be a key piece of evidence in the case against Sanchez.

I mean what do you want the parents to do at this point, it's still their daughter.
quote:of course she did. She would be an absolute fool to just nilly Willy plea guilty at an arraignment hearing

I sure as shite wouldn't say "I'm not mad."

most courts won't even let you plead guilty at arraignment for a felony

I'll agree. But she's been in foster care, do parents still have rights or even the right to be heard at that point?
