Not sure how I feel about it just yet. The $5k offsets the loss in value, but the issue still remains if I'll even be able to resell.

Can you sell it legally without it being repaired? There are a few new Passats/Jettas sitting in the back of our local dealer's lots collecting dust for a while now. I'm assuming that's because they can't sell them and haven't repaired them.

I doubt our EPA will let them get away with not repairing anything.

Kind of mind boggling to think that they'd actually design a cheat into their cars. That has to be one incredibly fricked up corporate culture.

That's one option but we're looking for a non VW to replace it.

Seems like VW should buy it back from you regardless.

Well $5000 per vehicle is $3B.

My assumption is they're doing everything they can to avoid buying all 600k of them back.

Didn't click the link, but that's a great offer if I don't have to make changes to my car. Sucks for Volkswagen though, as they will either have to fix or eat every car they haven't sold yet.

I have a 2011 TDI and I'll take this deal all day long that's probably worth more than the car with as many miles as I have

I forgot to add that there's no way this flies with EPA or especially CARB. They won't stand for a financial offset to allow non-compliant vehicles to remain on the road.

I'd agree with that.

It would be a great value. The value on the used market wouldn't be affected because no changes were made to the car and all potential future repercussions would be off the table.

It'll never happen that way though. Definitely not in California.

ETA: I just read it, and I'm calling bullshite.

Wife just sent me this email. I don't know what to think about it either. From blue book values, my car is worth about 12k. If they are just saying, here's 5k and we are wiping our hands of the issue, then the government tells me that you can't sell the car unless it's fixed, but VW isn't going to provide a fix, then I'd say I just lost 7k!!!!. I still have no clue if I can sell my car in the future.

As of right now, I don't care. I'm still driving with no issues and great fuel mileage. But this isn't providing any clear answers as to the future of the "equity" I have in my car. Only good thing is if I can get around inspections or forced upgrades and drive this thing into the ground. I'd basically still get a 5k trade in for it. I'm just worried they won't let me update registration at some point. Then I'm effed in the A

High mileage is gonna be high mileage.

Most people that bought these cars are gonna use them up. I don't think the value of the cars is gonna be that adversely impacted unless they can't ever pass inspection.

$5K is pretty cool.

5k is almost 25% of the purchase price of mine. You know that whole saying about "too good to be true?"

Definitely applicable here. Until I hear it from Volkswagen, I'm calling bullshite. I'm bookmarking this thread to eat crow if it does happen.

What needs to be repaired? I thought it was a software issue.
