None of that is true, and the part about life for a robbery isn't even possible.

The best punishment for him is to get the death penalty. They do have a lot of appeals and probably will die of natural causes before they are put down. Instead of being put in general population he would be put in a separate cell with a limited time each day to be let out in a yard to exercise. This is a miserable way to live unless they are mentally screwed up.
If he is given let's say 50 yrs he would be in general population. He would be in open cell blocks, probably given a job, and most people get use to it. It is not as harsh as being segregated on death row.
