What's funny is that One World Trade has already been eclipsed in Manhattan by 432 Park Avenue. One World Trade is only taller than 432 Park Avenue because of it's freaking antenna. I feel like that's cheating.

432 Park Avenue

ETA: shite. This was already posted.

You may have an arguement if you simply consider all architecture to be sky-scrapers. But even then, there isn't a ton of other countries blowing our doors off.

There is plenty of amazing architecture in the U. S.

So, a 3rd of the building is the pole at the top, and that impresses you?

We don't suck. We are too smart. Those countries, China leading the way, are building these cities and skyscrapers, and they can't even get them to 50% capacity. Not to mention they are backed by their federal gov. Our skyscrapers are built by private holders, and there has to be a need. No reason to waste a couple billion dollars, and raw resources on standing art, IMO.

Midland, Texas had a new 59 story mixed use tower planned, but investors scrapped it when the city told them they wouldn't give them any concessions for it.

And about falling behind in architecture...AT&T stadium in Arlington has the world's largest column-free interior. Like was said earlier in the thread; girth, not length. Look at the class of stadiums and domes just opened, being built or soon to begin construction in America. The tech going into these construction projects is insane.

Yeah, it's pretty amazing. The Narrows bridge looks way closer than it is. You can see the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges. And I can't remember the name of that building in Newark, but it looks tiny.

Saudi Arabia is building a 3,280' high rise city building. America for years has been falling behind.

If we built one, people from Saudi Arabia would blow it up.

Taller=/=great architecture

The only reason those towers in Asia and the ME can be built is with gov't securities.

Most of the new towers in Dubai were 3/4 empty as of last year.

You really think typical middle class residential architecture elsewhere is much more impressive?

This is more of a money thing than an architectural thing.
