I have protection against those type of frickers on the road. Tried to file a claim
Against him and his auto insurance company said he hadn't had a policy with them in 3 months. I have his info and I have his license plate #. If I file a claim with my insurance company, will my premium go up even though it wasn't my fault?

probably not, according to a guy I know, but if the damage is under two grand you might consider self insuring

I just went through this.

Got rear-ended near Scott on I-10, and his mamma "didn't pay his payment" so his policy was cancelled before the accident.

So, we filed with ours, and instead of the expected $500 deductible, it was $250 vs. uninsured.

So yeah, call em.

Yes, it has happened to me too many times.

I would file a claim 100%

Did you get a police report?

Your premium will not go up.

I got in a wreck this morning that was my fault and the guy drove off. I thought about chasing him but then realized it would be pointless. I guess it was better for me that he drove off?

If true, you have filed a police report. And told them it was their fault. Got license info, etc.

I wasn't able to get his license because I wasn't expecting him to drive off. Why would I file a police report on something that was my fault? I don't really know how that works and haven't spoken to my insurance yet

It's a no fault of yours incident. Your premium does not go up, I've used mine twice.

Depends on the amount of damage and what your deductible is IMO.

If you can afford it, go ahead and take your loss. You will get screwed otherwise. This person probably has nothing to sue for but you can try.

No police report. Can't lie the incident happened right outside my house. Didn't want that attention nor did I want the guy to know where I lived
