Got an email today saying now you can say thanks with a tip. I'm guessing they were having a hard time keeping drivers

Don't they also have a base fee to make sure they make money on each ride?

The zero gratuity policy is one of the few things Europe got right.

Nothing like getting your rider rating wrecked because you don't give enough tips.

I'll tip happily if it can be done from the app with no cash.

Same here. I've always bitched that this has never been an option

Can I add to my rider profile that gratuity is dependent on not talking to me?

So they are just doing what Lyft has done all along basically.

Omg, this.

Last Uber had me crying when he told me about his dead wife.

I thought this was one of the biggest original draws for using uber. You don't have to worry about tipping.

I switched over to Lyft a few months ago. I like them a lot plus once in a while they'll give me 50% off rides

Lyft was already doing it, so it's pretty ridiculous Uber wasn't. I'll tip my driver usually (unless they suck), but sometimes I don't have any cash on me. It does show that they haven't really been caring about their drivers if they haven't put in this voluntary feature that could help them.

I'm just tired of every goddamn service demanding gratuity.

I always check both and most of the time Lyft is cheaper.

And tips have always been accepted with Uber...you just couldn't do it through the app, could only give them cash. So you looked like a cheapass all those times you didn't give the driver at least a buck or two when exiting the car.
