Anyone use Uber for long hauls, specifically from the Nortshore (Mandeville/Covington) to New Orleans and back?

I've done this over a dozen times and only recently have I had an issue with the drivers (all on the N.O. side) either refusing the trip or bitching the entire time. It seems as if the Uber drivers in New Orleans are becoming more like the cab drivers.

This weekend I decided to text the driver and make them aware of the trip before they arrived. Two cancelled and the one that picked me up complained that he wasn't going to make any money because he had no pick-up coming back across.

Anyone else having this issue?

So do you get a credit when they cancel on you? Or does that only work in their favor when you cancel on them?

that they don't know enough to price the gig to cover that is probably why they're uber drivers?

ETA: and it is kind of naive on your part to not expect to pay for them to reposition back to where their work is

i don't see an issue. I wouldn't do it if I was them.

what if they get caught on the causeway with a wreck.

that may ruin a whole work day for them.

seems you fall into the category that this is all for you and not for them to make money

Give him a bad rating and tell him tough shite. He had the chance to refuse.

I wouldn't do it either. You should have to pay more as they are going back empty. Really you are almost fricking them.

The drivers know your destination before they pick you up. I think this thread is a troll.

sooner or later they just won't make that trip.

up to the customer to fix the relationship bridge.

too bad most people that use uber think it should be cheap when in fact that is a shitty trip and they would be driving it themselves if it really wasnt so bad

Call me an a-hole, but when I Uber it is because I don't want to or can't drive at the moment. My motive is not to ensure the driver makes money.

well someone in your position should STFU and be happy they took your drunk arse home.

ETA:

1. I don't drive for Uber/Lyft/Taxis
2. I have never been in an UBer or Lyft.

ok, you're an a-hole

that is precisely why you should make it worth their while, saving your
sorry drunken arse jail time, job impact, and 15-20k

Well this is where simple economics kicks in, because based on the model Uber set forth...the driver is their own boss and if it isn't in their best interest to make that run then so be it

Don't they get locked out if they refuse a ride?

that trip will not exist soon if people are stiffing the drivers

someone should start a gofundme for the OP and his Nola trips

They do not know your destination until they arrive at your location. This is why I started to text them before they begin the route to pick me up.

Im trying not to be an a-hole and give them the opportunity to refuse the service.

I agree, ther should be a surcharge for an empty leg back but that's on Uber not me. I happen to tip very well when they do bring me across.

The fare runs between $45 and $55.
