If you are not in it, then they don't care if you come or not.

I'd tell one friend that the other friend sent the invitation first and you already committed, and vice versa, and go to neither.

I had a similar dilemma, but the problem has been solved for me, because friend 1's fiancee changed it to an out-of-state wedding, and the other person, a friend of my wife, was a match for my son's blood type and gave some blood for my son's surgery. So, he wins.

Tell both of them that the other sent the invitation first and you responded that you would go. Both think you are at the other wedding, and you don't have to go to either.

Pretty obvious from the way you framed each one that you you've already made up your mind. Why are you asking strangers for confirmation?

Wedding with the nerds. Cut the line, shake his hand, hug her.

Then haul arse to the other city for the reception.

Go to 2. Good friends and family are priceless and won't be around forever. Opportunities for partying will be.

I had a similar dilemma once. Childhood friend's wedding vs fraternity brother's wedding on the same day. Went to the fraternity brother's because it was a better party. A couple of years later, the childhood friend committed suicide, and I've felt bad about skipping his wedding ever since.

The grownup answer is go to wedding of the friend you're closest to. You can party on your own dime later.

Checked with the wife...she says No. 1. Sounds more fun and more of a chance to get laid.
