I don't have traction control, only have two airbags, and wish I didn't have ABS. Shits annoying

I've never been in a car where the airbags deployed* but ABS and traction control have saved my arse more than a couple of times.

*I've been in vehicles where the funbags were deployed. Fun bags.

ABS is the single greatest thing ever.

Can go deep in wet corners...

I've always been a fan of the 1990's extended cab Z71's.

Not on all of my trucks. When they go over bumps, the ABS trips and you can't slow down. I've almost been in a couple of wrecks because of ABS, and it hasn't ever saved me from one in the rain

Been like that on my last three trucks. Replaced the hubs to verify, and it still happens. If I could shut it off with a programmer, I would

What you are describing is exactly what kept Porsche from putting ABS on the 911.

In 1974.

This has long since been cured and if your ABS is going off in this manner it is because the sensors think that the bumps are the wheels spinning and thus actuating the ABS module.

No way. You're way better off checking regional Craigslist ads. Typically those have been fixed up and you know they are driveable and you can walk away if you aren't comfortable. One or 2 will pop up monthly but you have to be prepared to act fast.

Government auctions don't let you check then out or put batteries in them to see if they run.

A raw CUCV is going to have a good 6 or 7 major issues seeing as how these are 30 year old vehicles.

Register at steelsoldiers.com and start educating yourself if you are serious.

You have to call the facility the vehicle is at. I've never had a facility tell me I couldn't look at a vehicle if I wanted to. If it's not close enough to go look at, I wouldn't bid on it.

I hear what you're saying, but I have a 2000 Excursion I bought for 4k with 145000 2 years ago. I've replaced some of the original parts to err on the side of caution and upgraded to Toyo Open Country 285/75's on the stock rims but aside from that nothing was needed. I had a 89 suburban 4 by for a while until I got t-boned. That was a solid vehicle too.
