I'm interested in obtaining a truck or SUV that may be somewhat reliable, easy to work on for regular maintenance stuff (nothing big, like transmission issues, etc), and with parts readily available. I'm not looking to spend a ton of money either, so I'm hoping to find something that may be undervalued currently.

I really just want something to haul stuff around when I need to and it would be nice if I could fit the family (2 kids) in it too. I've been looking at Bronco's, but a lot of the ones I've seen don't seem to be in great condition. I've also been looking at some mid / late 90's 4Runners. I'd possibly be interested in an old jeep as well, though I wouldn't be able to haul much in it.

Car guys, what would you be looking for with this criteria?

I am actually driving the very first vehicle I ever owned - a '96 F-150 extended cab. I drove it from 97-99, then my dad kept it and used it as his everyday vehicle until he passed away in 2013. After he died my mom gave it to me. I sold my 4 Runner because I didn't need a car payment. I've had a few people stop and ask if I was interested in selling because of it's condition. A few others comment/take pictures because the paint still looks good (for the most part). It's funny, because it was only kept in a garage (parking deck) when he had to work in the office.

It has 215,000 miles on it.

I started to answer with a square body style 2 door Z71 Tahoe....but per Ebay I'm too late. They're already in the $10k range.

I've always liked the early 4Runners, they can be had in the $5k range.

Where are you located? I've got a '99 z71, two door Tahoe I might be willing to part with. The truck itself has 198k miles on it but, I replaced the motor with a Jasper crate motor about 30k miles ago.

Toyota FJ60 (or 62). One of the toughest, sexiest, most reliable vehicles ever made.

If you're looking for something a little smaller like a jeep, then check out the FJ40.

Most states define "antique" vehicles as 25 years old.

Any pre 1981 Chevy, reliable and if not you find small block parts laying beside the road. Basically the same block from 55 to 80

Jesus, really? Does she give you an allowance or do you have a job?

Very much not the case depending on how you build it.

Well, add to it I just bought an old jeep AND she has an old car and wants something new. It's called compromise and negotiation.

Nothing from the 80s.

Go with a 90's Ford or GM pickup. 4Rnner is good, too.

Honestly though, everything you find is gonna be wore out.
